Lackawanna County is comprised of 40 municipalities which take on several distinctive forms of government. These specific forms of governing are boroughs, cities, and townships.
As of 2006 the population of Lackawanna County was recorded at 209,728. Median age of residents is 41.6. Fifty two percent of the population is women and 47.6% are men. Seventy nine percent of the population is 18 years of age or older. Those in the age bracket of 45 -54 make up the largest portion of the population, which is 31,499 residents. There are 30,693 renter occupied units and 54,523 owner occupied units. The median household income is $38,915.
